I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free for Ukulele
What can be said about this song? It’s simply one of the greatest feel good melodies ever. Enjoy yourself. I would. Dare you to listen to this version all the way through. Cwtch me please!
What This Song Can Teach You –
- Play in the key of F.
- Have fun with a great, recognisable chord sequence.
- Works well on a Baritone ukulele.
- More Diminished chords. These things still rule.
You may remember that I love TV themes and, luckily, so do you. To me this will always be the theme to the BBC programme ‘Film’ presented by a man with 2 very boring names – Barry Norman. I also believe Nina Simone did a version?
Anyhow, you may think that this one is a little tricky. It can be if you follow the sheet note for note but I think of you have a listen to my version you’ll pick it up pretty quickly. As ever, begin with the ‘lead’ sheet to get a feel for the melody. Do you have a friend? Ask her to play the chords along with you. Does she play piano? Marry her.
The ‘Solo’ sheet features little surprises but do watch out for all those tied chords. It’s a feel thing. Also, a wild diminished chord appears later on. The uke was made for diminished chords, I swear. Enjoy and let me know how you get on. It’s lonely up here in my ivory tower.
